Avondale Vets Information

Our four farm vets provide a complete farm service 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The practice is traditionally based on farm animal work, mainly dairy. It is our aim to help farms improve efficiency in production, herd health and caring for the individual sick animal.
Areas we provide service in:
- Ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis and fertility investigation.
- Mastitis investigation including in house bacteriology.
- Heard Health Planning.
- Premium Cattle Health Scheme (BVD, Johne’s, IBR and leptospirosis) and Sheep Flock Scheme Testing (Maedi-visna, EAE and Scrapie).
- Export certification.
- Disease investigation and prevention advice.
- Worm and fluke analysis/Parasitology including sheep scab.
- Lameness scoring.
- Dietary analysis and advice.
- Metabolic profiling of dairy cattle in conjunction with the Dairy Herd Health and Production Service (DHHPS) from Edinburgh Vet School.
- Fully computerised record keeping ensuring all necessary information is available.
- Dehorning, castrating, DEFRA routine testing.
- Surgery on sheep, cattle, goats and alpacas.

Avondale Vet Group has invested in a mobile foot trimming crush.
The cost is £10 per cow, for all 4 feet. 7 cows per hour can go through this system. Please contact the surgery for further details.
Contracts
Farm contracts are available at £2 per adult dairy cow ( total of all milking and dry cows but not in-calf heifers) per month and covers all routine service fees except foot trimming. The contract gives you a 25% discount on all drugs (except autoworm special spring offers).
