We offer consulting and operating facilities to veterinary surgeons who have additional expertise in particular fields. They have all the specialist equipment of the highest standards and although visiting, patient care will in no way be compromised.
They are happy to see clients from other practices here, on the basis that all such clients would not be taken on by the first opinion service under any circumstances and would be returned to your own vet for follow up care and treatment. They are:
George Peplinski MA VetMB CertVOphth MRCVS – George qualified from Cambridge and after a brief spell in mixed practice moved into small animal work where he obtained his ophthalmology certificate early in his career. He has extensive experience of general and emergency small animal work and has for the last six years run the ophthalmology referral service at the Glasgow Vet School. When time and family commitments allow he occasionally gets out for a road or hill run with his Hungarian Vizsla Zola, never quite managing to tire her out. I am sure that he is well known to most of you. He consults here on Thursday afternoons and operates on Friday mornings.
Craig Devine BVSc DVC MRCVS – Craig sees cases at many practices across the South of Scotland and Northern England and comes to us on a monthly basis. He brings his own echocardiographic equipment, including colour-flow Doppler and ECG, can perform Holter monitoring examinations and has use of our digital radiography suite. He is holder of the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Cardiology and, as such, is very well qualified to assist you in the management of your cardio-respiratory cases.
Rosemary Fitzgerald MVB CertVR Cert VA LFHom (Vet) MRCVS
Rosemary is a very experienced small animal vet with additional qualifications in radiology and anaesthesia as well as homeopathy. She has over the years developed an additional interest in complimentary medicine which she uses alongside conventional practice. She currently sees cases in Paisley and Dalry, as well as at Avondale. Appointments are booked directly with her via her mobile (07765 666572) or email on rosemary@alternative-vet-therapies.co.uk
Romain Pizzi BVSc MSc DZooMed FRES MACVSc (surg) MRCVS
RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo & Wildlife Medicine
Romain is a hugely experienced zoo & wildlife veterinarian who works as a specialist for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland at Edinburgh Zoo, the wildlife vet for the SSPCA Wildlife Rescue Centre, a Special Lecturer in Zoo & Wildlife Medicine at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and a lecturer to Veterinary nurses at Telford College.
In addition to all this he has developed a great interest and expertise in so-called ‘minimally invasive surgery’ e.g., laparoscopy and thoracoscopy where the procedures are performed through ‘keyhole’ incision. This has many applications in both small animal and equine practice to reduce post-operative discomfort and increase the speed of recovery, just as in people. Romain has performed these procedures in a wide range of animals, from frogs to giraffes! Typical procedures would include removal of lung lobes, the pericardium (the membrane surrounding the heart) and rig operations in horses.
Romain is available to perform procedures here at Avondale, on both equine and small animals, by prior arrangement. His expertise can be used by both our clients and those of referring practices.
